These handmade Fatschen figures, each carved from a single piece of wood, are wonderfully tactile creations inspired by the traditional Fatschenkind of the Alpine region.
The Fatschenkind—depictions of the infant Jesus—were especially beloved in southern Germany, Austria, and South Tyrol. These devotional images show the Christ child tenderly wrapped in soft swaddling clothes, reflecting a common childcare practice that continued well into the 19th century.
Inspired by this touching tradition, and in collaboration with Pongratz, I created these special accessories using our exclusive premium cotton fabric, illustrated by Daniela Drescher, paired with fine Italian merino/cashmere yarn to beautifully envelop these little figures in gently warmth.
They invite both children and your child within to enjoy gentle play and imaginative caring moments.
This Limited Edition Fatschen collection, made in collaboration with Pongratz, is available in two sizes — 7 cm and 14 cm.
The 7 cm child has a cashmere cosy, an amanita inspired merino bonnet and he is wrapped in a cashmere/silk/kid mohair leaf blanket.
The 14 cm child has a knitted scarf and bonnet from Italian merino/cashmere yarn, a leaf blanket and he is wrapped in a foldable leaf blanket made from the exclusive premium cotton Dollbelge fabric Blackberry Gnomes, illustrated by Daniela Drescher.
